Entrepreneurial Profile
Lindiwe Makhoba
Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” In reflecting on our current social realities, we cannot overlook the responsibility we share to develop, support and uplift others. Young people need to be heard, guided and mentored so they can grow into strong leaders, following the example of the late Baba Madiba.
Fashion and beauty entrepreneur Lindiwe Makhoba is making her mark in the fashion industry through unique, authentic designs. Her passion for fashion and the creative arts led her to leave a stable day job with a secure income for a fast-paced industry that offered no guarantees.
During her student days, while travelling to and from school, she observed the differences between social classes and was motivated to create beautiful designs for people who may not be able to afford major brands.
Makhoba says that although employment offers many benefits, it can also take away one of the most important things in life: the opportunity to pursue one’s dream.
This decision has given her the time to focus on developing her skills and building a successful Black female-owned business. Makhoba also hosts empowerment sessions with young people from KwaMashu, the local township where she grew up. Having experienced limited access to information in the township, she now helps connect young people with opportunities.
